Merida Mexico

Mérida er hovedstaden i den mexicanske stat Yucatan. Mérida er en fascinerende og festlig by med en meget tydelig spansk kolonial indflydelse. Mérida er en meget stemningsfuld by, især i weekenderne, når de centrale gader er lukket af, og der er musik og dans på hovedpladsen. Hele byen synes at flytte downtown for at fejre. Det er også en god base for at udforske Yucatan-halvøen. Fra Mérida kan du besøge maya-ruiner og museer, haciendaer, cenotes og en stor variation af katolske kirker. Mérida blev grundlagt af spanske conquistadorer i 1542. De erobrede den eksisterende maya-by, nedrev pyramiderne og brugte stenene til at bygge Katedralen San Idelfonso. Stedet for en pyramide er nu Méridas hovedbyplads. Denne byplads eller Plaza er nu omringet af denne katedral samt rådhuset, guvernørens palads og Casa de Montejo, den tidligere hjem for erobreren af Yucatan. Spadser ned ad Paseo Montejo for at beundre restaurerede spanske og franske koloniale palæer. Mérida er en interessant blanding af fantastisk kultur og historie, velsmagende mad, uendelige kulturelle aktiviteter og spændende attraktioner. Mérida er den kulturelle hovedstad i Yucatan og dens pulserende urbane hjerte.
